Significance
Celebrates Goddess Durga's nine-day battle with the buffalo demon Mahishasura, culminating in his defeat on Vijayadashami. Each of the nine days is dedicated to a different form of Durga: Shailputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalaratri, Mahagauri and Siddhidatri.
